  Airline & Airport News ---

- New Yangon International Airport Opens -
Yangon International Airport officially opened its new  terminal building  on May 25, 2007. The airport is an extensive expansion and renovation on the site of the old one. The new airport has 36,500 sq ft for the departure hall and 54,900 sq ft for the arrival hall.  All international  flights will operate  from the new building. The  new  terminal includes four boarding bridges, three escalators, five baggage conveyors, four snack counters, and twelve restrooms. (new departure area pictured)

  *ALERT* -  * New Airport Security measures from June 1, 2007 *
Effective from June 1, 2007 and in line with new global security guidelines issued by International Civil Aviation Organization, all passengers departing on international flights from Yangon International Airport will be subjected to restrictions on the carriage of certain items in their hand baggage. New security screening measures at Yangon International Airport mean all liquids, gels, pastes and aerosols must be placed in re-sealable transparent plastic bags of certain dimensions.
(1).  All Liquids, Gels, pastes and aerosols in containers (e.g.; tubes, bottles, cans and jars) must each not exceed 100ml. Liquids, gels, pastes and aerosols in excess of 100ml will not be accepted, even if their containers are part-filled.
(2). These items must be placed in a transparent re-sealable plastic bag of a maximum capacity not exceeding 1 liter. These must fit comfortably within the transparent plastic bag, which must be completely closed.
(3). The size of the plastic bag must not exceed 20cm x 20cm (8 inches x 8 inches).
(4). The plastic bag must be presented for visual examination at the airport security screening point. Only one transparent plastic bag per passenger will be permitted to be carried.
(5). Exemptions will be made for medication, for which prescriptions / medical certificates are required. Baby milk / food and special dietary foods are also exempt.

Air Bagan begins flights to Bangkok -
Air Bagan began daily flights to Bangkok on May 15, 2007.

 Hotel & Resort News ---  

  YANGON
-The Governor's Residence (renovation)
one of Yangon's most elegant boutique hotels, is renovating during the period May 1 to July 15, 2007.


  INLE LAKE 
- Inle Princess Resort (renovation)
a favorite resort destination at Inle Lake, is undergoing renovation from June 1 -30, 2007.

 
 

- Inle Lakeview Resort (new villas)
another elegant boutique hotel, added two new 100 sq meter Lakeview Villas during this past year.          
               

 - The Aureum Resort & Spa (new hotel)
is under construction on the northwestern shore of Inle Lake (near Khaung Daing Village). This deluxe resort is scheduled to be completed by January, 2008 and will have  50 to 55 freestanding bungalows. (no pictures available).

  BAGAN 
- The Aureum Resort Bagan (addition)
is adding 42 deluxe rooms in a separate addition being built on the east side of the main parking area, in back of the main Aureum Resort facilities. This property will function separately from the main facility with its own dining room, bar and swimming pool areas. Completion is scheduled for October, 2007. (no pictures available)

 MANDALAY
- Mandalay Hill Resort (spa)
introduces its Mandalar Villa & Spa featuring Myanmar Traditional Bungalows for unique relaxation as well as meditation. Facilities include twin massage beds, steam rooms and garden shower. Spa services are available from 10am to 1030 pm daily.   
                  

-The Hotel at Red Canal (new hotel)
is a new property opened this season in Mandalay. This 25 room boutique hotel is for those who desire a more intimate experience. www.hotelredcanal.com 
          

 PYIN U LWIN   (Maymyo)
- Aureum Resort @ The Governor's House (new hotel)
 Aureum Hotels Group is developing a new deluxe property at Pyin U Lwin. The hotel will be completed by the end of October 2007 and will have 34 spacious chalets with a two story late Victorian colonial mansion as the centerpiece.
                                      
     
 NGAPALI BEACH
- Amata Resort (expansion)

s adding 20 deluxe rooms (which will give 49 deluxe rooms total). The new rooms are scheduled for opening in late November, 2007.

 NGWE SAUNG BEACH
- Bay of Bengal Resort (new hotel)
is newly opened at Ngwe Saung beach on 14.3 acres of land. It is located next to the Aureum Ngwe Saung Resort, has 62 rooms and is in the 3 to 4 star category. www.bayofbengalresort.com

 

 

Cruise News ---

    - The IFC Pandaw company 
  
   will introduces
spa facilities next season onboard their short
      cruises between Mandalay and Bagan. This will include
      foot & head massages and various beauty therapies.
                            
  
                             

   

Other News ---

  BAGAN   
- Balloons Over Bagan  ( expanding capacity)
will now operate a maximum of four balloons at any one time. Total capacity will increase
to 40 passengers per flight from the 20th October to 31st March, and will be 20 passengers per flight during the first half of October. The season will run from
October 1st 2007 to March 31st 2008.

 YANGON & Nyaung Shwe (Inle Lake)
 
- Le Planteur Restaurant (new location and new restaurant)
Yangon's award winning best restaurant has moved to a new location in Yangon at 22 Kaba Aye Pagoda Road located near the heart of the city in an ancient colonial manor. The classified building is surrounded by 1 hectare of tropical garden. The restaurant indoor capacity is increased from the previous facility and the garden capacity is 250 diners. * This season Le Planteur also opened a new restaurant,  The View Point, at Nyaung Shwe next to the canal entrance  at Inle Lake.
